Lydia Persuad

Review by Daniel Cantu

A standout artist of the modern age where R&B music of today is paying homage to the past while embracing the future.

I stumbled upon Lydia Persuad on an afternoon while on a flight coming back from Las Vegas from a friends bachelor party. After a long 4 day weekend of loud club music, I was searching for some new music to just relax and vibe to. I discovered her on a Apple Music playlist called “Northern Vibes” that focuses on artists hailing from Canada. As the first song of her Moody31 album started playing, I was hooked. The first track “Good For Us”, instantly captured my attention. With smooth, classic vocals that blended beautifully in the rich instrumentation, Lydia Persuad channels her soulful elegance on 70s R&B/Soul and Jazz tracks with a slight modern touch that still pays homage the sound of the 70s era.

I listened to the whole project and was just completely in awe not only by the production of the album, but by the vocals and lyrics that made me feel connected in a way every artist wants to make their fans feel.

It’s not often that you see artists go back to the root of their genre and execute it as well as Lydia Persuad did. I can sit here and honestly say that I’m a huge fan. I listen to some of the tracks on this album weekly and have played the whole album through multiple times.

It’s been almost 3 years since her last release and I’m eagerly awaiting the follow up. Go and listen to Lydia Persuad on all streaming services, and support the artist via her socials and bandcamp links below.
